Draft: this policy is waiting for review by our lawyer and may change before StorageGuru's official launch.
The short version: we collect only what's needed to run storage rentals, we never sell it, we show no ads, and we use one login cookie and no tracking. We never see full card numbers; Stripe handles those.
This policy explains what StorageGuru [legal company name, LLC, to be filled in] ("StorageGuru", "we") collects on storageguru.app and each lot's page (like millerstorage.storageguru.app), and what we do with it.
1. Owners and renters
Lot owners use StorageGuru to run their business. When you rent from a lot, the owner decides what to ask you and uses your information for your rental; StorageGuru stores and processes it for them. For questions about your rental information, start with the lot owner. We'll help too.
2. What we collect
From lot owners:
- Lot name, web address, email, phone, town or address, lot rules, spaces and prices, the lot's location on the map, and your rental agreement.
- Your password, stored only in scrambled form we can't read back.
- Records of fees we charged you. Your saved card is kept by Stripe, not by us.
From renters and people on a waiting list (entered by you or the owner):
- Name, phone, email, and details about what you're storing (type, description, length, plate, VIN or hull number) and when.
- A photo or PDF of your insurance card and its expiration date, if the lot asks for it.
- When you sign an agreement: your typed or drawn signature, the exact agreement text, the time, and your device's internet (IP) address and browser type, kept as proof of signing.
- Payment records: amounts, dates, how it was paid, and refunds. Card and bank numbers are entered on Stripe's own pages and kept by Stripe; StorageGuru never sees or stores full card numbers.
From everyone: like most websites, our hosting keeps basic technical logs (internet address, page visited, time, browser type) to keep the service running and secure. Emails you send to support are kept so we can help you.
3. How we use it
- To run StorageGuru: requests, agreements, signing, payments, reminders, receipts and records.
- To send emails you'd expect, like signing links, rent and insurance reminders, receipts, bills and password resets.
- To bill owners for StorageGuru's fees.
- To keep accounts safe (for example, pausing logins after too many wrong passwords) and to fix problems.
- To answer your questions.
We don't sell or rent anyone's information, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't send marketing to renters.
4. Who sees it
- The lot owner sees the information of their own renters and waiting list. Renters see their own rental through their private link. A lot's public page shows its spaces and prices, not renters' details.
- Companies that help us run StorageGuru, only for that purpose: Stripe (payments), Google Cloud (hosting), Neon (database), Resend (sending email), Cloudflare (delivering the website and forwarding support email), and Google Maps (the lot map: pages with a map load it from Google, which receives your device's internet address under Google's privacy policy).
- When the law requires it, such as a valid court order, or to protect people's safety or StorageGuru's rights.
- If StorageGuru is ever sold or merged, this information would pass to the new owner under this same policy.
5. Cookies and "Do Not Track"
StorageGuru uses one cookie ("sg_session"). It keeps owners logged in and protects forms from being submitted by other websites. There are no advertising, tracking or analytics cookies, so there's no cookie banner. Payment pages run by Stripe and maps from Google follow their own policies.
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because StorageGuru doesn't track you across websites or show ads, there's nothing for that signal to switch off; the site works the same either way.
6. Emails from us
- Service emails (signing links, receipts, reminders, bills, password resets, important changes) are part of using StorageGuru, so they're sent while you have an account or rental. Owners can turn rent reminders to their renters off in Settings.
- Occasional news or offers may be sent to lot owners and people who've asked about StorageGuru. Every one says who it's from and how to stop them: reply "stop" and we won't send another. We never send offers to renters.
7. How long we keep it
We keep information while the owner's account is open. When an account is closed, we delete it within 90 days, except records we must keep longer for taxes, the law, or to settle disputes (for example payment and signing records). Owners decide how long to keep their own renter records and can ask us to delete them.
8. Keeping it safe
Every page uses an encrypted (https) connection, passwords are stored scrambled, logins pause after repeated wrong passwords, and each renter's private link is a long random code. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
9. Your rights and choices
- Owners can see, change and download their records in the app at any time.
- Anyone can ask us, free of charge, to: tell them what information we have about them and where it came from; give them a copy they can take elsewhere; correct it; or delete it (except what we must keep, as section 7 explains). Write to support@storageguru.app.
- To protect you, we'll confirm it's really you before acting, usually by checking two details you gave us before (like your email and phone number). Someone you trust can ask for you if you give them written permission.
- If you're a renter, your information is part of the lot owner's business records, so we may pass your request to them or check with them first, and we'll help them answer it.
- We answer within 45 days, and you'll never be treated differently or charged more for asking.
- We don't sell or share anyone's information for other companies' marketing. Depending on where you live (for example California), your state's law may give you more rights; we'll honor them.
10. Children
StorageGuru is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we'll delete it if we learn we have.
11. Where your information is kept
StorageGuru is run from the United States, for storage lots in the United States. Information is stored in the United States by the companies listed in section 4.
12. Changes
If we make an important change to this policy, we'll email owners and update the date at the top.
